Afterward, we spent some time in their conservatory where I was contentedly shooting along until my camera battery died. (Note to self: charge your battery, especially when you only have one.) There were beautiful varieties of orchids and all kinds of exotic flowers that I'd never seen before. I am continually amazed by the detail, diversity, and creativity of God's handiwork. Even the leaves of the plants are intricately designed in so many unique shapes. How glorious must God be when He creates such beauty as this?
When I splurged on a DSLR camera, I chose to invest in a Macro lens rather than a zoom. For years, I'd spent hours in my yard with my old point and shoot trying to take the photos of flowers that I envisioned, only to be frustrated by the quality of the pictures and the inability to get the camera to focus on the close-up shots. I didn't want to have the same frustration with a several hundred dollar camera in my hand, so I bought the Canon 60 mm Macro. As I pour over macro photography books, I know I have a long way to go before mastery. Regardless, this is still a pretty sweet shot.
If you have a sweet shot to share this week, link up with Darcy.

That is a very sweet shot. I want a Macro lens...maybe Mother's Day:)
Beautiful and I so agree about Gods workmanship. I was having fun trying out the 60mm macro but it took me a while to figure it out...and even then I didn't use it to it's capacity. I would like a macro lens someday and a nice zoom but my next lens is a 50mm prime and I can't wait.
I think that was money well spent on that lens.
I want to take closeups of people. like SUPER close ups of babies and people's jewelry and wrinkles and eyelashes and braces.
Can't wait to go through the Goodwill outlet bin and find that $900 lens. ;)
oh you'll have so much fun exploring all that camera can do! great shot!
very nice!
I went with the zoom (it goes from 18-200) because I honestly didn't want to be changing lenses all the time, and I wanted to take the shots easily. I still have to figure out my camera though. I have not even scratched the surface of what it can do. But isn't it nice to get those shots you want without them being blurry and such?
what a sweet shot. Thanks so much for sharing. I can't wait to get a macro lens myself (only one of my dream birthday gifts :))
Macro photography is my favorite! Beautiful!!
Great close-up! Brings all the beautiful detail to life!
Thanks for sharing with us and I look forward to more.
love it, the colours are gorgeous. i don't blame you for getting the macro...what else does one do once one has found macro? ;)
Most definitely a sweet shot! I love my macro lens, too. Love this one.
wow that is stunning. you are making me want a macro.
I love this shot of the orchid; the colors and the curves. Truly an amazing creation!
love the story about the tulips. and love macro myself. orchids... how many i've tried to keep! my motherinlaw has a whole window sill (bay window) potted garden of them. they're beautiful. great job!
(ps: i invested in a universal camera battery charger from radioshack one trip when i left my charger home...it has attachments that converted it to a car charger... which i leave in my car and charge the battery while i'm driving.)
Beautiful shot!
I just found your blog, and I read the post about the convention you attended. I've heard (and read) Jeff Myers of Summit Ministries, and he's great.
Come on over for some mom inspiration and encouragement.
Oh wow... that is a gorgeous shot! What a beautiful flower!
